Warren Bennis said 'Great groups need to know that the person at the top will fight like a tiger for them'.
You might be able to remember a leader or manager you had who stood up for you in the face of an unfair criticism or a challenge that wasn’t based on facts or evidence. Can you remember how that made you feel? How valued you felt?
You might remember that that was a key moment that inspired you to work harder for them, go above and beyond in your work. You might have found yourself defending them in another situation with others later on.
So, what would it be like to have the people on your team who will circle the wagons and help support you if you face a challenge?
Pretty good, right?
So if you get a chance this coming week, stand up for those you lead if they are under attack, especially if it’s clearly unjustified.
You will reap the rewards of that for months and years to come.
