There is currently no domestic abuse shelter in either Monaghan or Cavan. Government funding has been promised but the refuge will not be in place for a couple of years at least. While this is welcomed, it will be too late for someone who is living in fear in their own home today or tonight.
I am planning several fundraising activities to raise funds for emergency accommodation for those experiencing domestic abuse in Monaghan and Cavan, through existing hotel/B&B/self-catering accommodation and accessed through existing services so as not to duplicate or take away from those services but to complement and enhance them.
The first fundraising activity was my climb of Carrauntoohil on 25th March 2023 along with a group of my business colleagues in the BNI. Carrauntoohil is well known to be a tough climb. I did not take this challenge lightly so I trained and prepared as much as I could. (Apparently climbing the stairs in my house two at a time wasn’t enough preparation!).
Your support for this fundraiser is greatly appreciated. The value and importance of a safe place to stay or to flee to when someone is in fear cannot be overstated. Your contribution will go a long way in supporting the brave women and men who seek to create a safe autonomous future for themselves and their families. On their behalf, thank you for any donation you can make. Every little helps a lot.
