Who pulls you out of the mud?

This week I got a fabulous opportunity to facilitate a leadership workshop in Google for some of their senior leaders.

It was fabulous for three reasons:

1) The content I created for them included my areas of special interest.

2) I got a very warm welcome and the group were wonderfully engaged so we got work done while having fun.

3) I got to experience the culture of a company that prioritises the happiness of its employees. I also got a glimpse of what that must feel like for the employees. Without a doubt this was a workplace that I would look forward to going in to every day, would go above and beyond for in my work performance and would be reluctant to leave.

While there is an avalanche of evidence, research and feedback that happy employees are more engaged, productive and loyal when they are treated well, there are still [too] many companies that just don’t get it.

There is work to be done.

In the meantime, below right is a photo of me, very happy after just 3 hours there.

The photo on the left is a different kind of work-day, but another very happy one. I was on a team-building morning in Tanagh Adventure Centre with my wonderful friends and colleagues from my BNI group.

These are the people who literally pull me out of the mud when I sink 😊

I am truly blessed.

Running a business, overcoming ever-changing challenges and leading others are rarely easy roles.

It’s so important to surround yourself with people who will pull you out of the mud. Leadership is a journey best travelled with others.

(‘Others’ includes other leaders and coaches - which begs the question, have you hired your coach yet?!)

Until next week, take care,

Lisa.
