Have you ever stopped to consider what your parenting goals are?
We plan short journeys in the car, and yet we rarely, if ever, stop to think about how we want our children to be raised; what values we want to instill in them, what behaviours we want to role model for them, and equally important, what behaviours do we not want them to pick up!
Why not take time out of the hurly-burly of life to reflect and consider the big picture of your parenting. Get a paper and pen and sit down with your co-parent (or on your own if that’s the case, and if you are not a parent you could be the coach for your friends and relatives who are – they will love you for this!) and…
> give yourself the opportunity to discover your hidden parenting skills and talents.
> have a conversation with your co-parent or a trusted confidante to explore what kind of parent you want to be.
> become self-aware and more conscious of your parenting choices.
> pause, reflect, review, and make long term strategic plans for your family.
> identify the values you would like to bring to your parenting, and the values/habits you would rather not!
> prepare in advance for the challenges of raising children (from bump to selfies!).
Coaching is the perfect forum to do these. A coaching session is a safe courageous space that is created by an experienced and skilled coach so that you can explore what’s really important to you and keep your new insights front and centre of your mind going forward.
Please contact me if you would like to book time in my diary to do this. We will do a free 30 minute call first to check that you are happy to go ahead.
If you have signed up to The Resilience Hub, you will find a one-page downloadable exercise to help you map out your thoughts, with thought-inspiring questions you may never have asked yourself. It’s in the Parenting Section (scroll down in the chapters on the left of your screen when you have logged in).
If you haven’t yet signed up, you can do so HERE.
Until next week, take care!
